The City of Richardson is getting its biggest wildflowers yet! Arts and music festivals have seen revenue and attendance increase year over year since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials estimate revenue will be about $700,000 this year and $608,000 in 2023, according to data provided by the city.
Overview
Ahead of this year’s festival, city officials introduced new ticket and chair policies for the event. After the Plaza Stage was closed in previous years due to nearby development, the stage is being used for the 2024 festival.
“The Wildflower! Arts and Music Festival … provides a platform for cultural expression, community engagement and economic development,” City Manager Don Magner said in an email. “[Our festivals] These first-class facilities strengthen our communities, enhance our quality of life, and work together to make Richardson a great place to live and work.
Greg Sowell, director of communications and engagement for Richardson, said the city has not studied the festival’s impact on hotel stays or visitors who come to the city for the wildflowers! Arts and Music Festival. Headlining this year’s event are Nile Rodgers & Chic, Randy Rodgers Band and Sister Sledge.
Looking to the future
Next year’s festival is scheduled for May 16-18.
