Nonprofit is raising funds to support GFPS Arts, Theater and Music

Spark The Arts is a new nonprofit working with Great Falls Public Schools to support the arts department amid budget cuts across the state.

On Saturday, June 8th, they will host their first fundraiser – “The Soirée”. All proceeds will support music, art and drama in the Great Falls school system.

The nonprofit was founded a year and a half ago by a group of parents to promote arts programs in Great Falls Public Schools, including visual arts, music and theater.

The evening will feature a dinner, performances by faculty and students, an art exhibit and an auction.

“This will be an incredible night showcasing our students and teachers,” explained Spark The Arts Vice President Mandy Brumwell. “We have some performances put together by our teachers that will highlight their talents and passions and why we of children in these programs do so well through what the teachers themselves do.

Spark The Arts supports arts programs in grades elementary through high school and plans to expand its work beyond Great Falls Public Schools to include schools in Cascade County as the nonprofit gains momentum.

“I really want people to take notice that these programs need to stay in our schools. We can’t lose these. For a lot of kids, this is a way out, this is their path, this is their path,” Brumwell said. It’s their tribe. Everyone deserves to have a group of people in school who understand them and accept them.

The gala will be held on Saturday, June 8, at the Mansfield Convention Center, 2 Park Drive South. Doors open at 5pm, dinner starts at 6pm.
