Father’s Day, start of Hamburg Week, art and music festival

Welcome to the (almost) weekend! Sunday is Father’s Day, and if you’re looking for ways to celebrate your dad, we have some options for you.

Here are some upcoming events around San Antonio.

  • Burger Week Begins: San Antonio Burger Week begins Friday and runs through June 24, benefiting the San Antonio Food Bank. Read our story here.
  • New exhibition opening: The Briscoe Museum of Western Art will open a new exhibit that will allow people to learn about animals and their natural habitats. The summer exhibition titled “Survival of the Fittest: Imagining Wildlife and Wilderness with Four Giants from the National Museum of Twente and the National Museum of Wildlife Art” will be open from Friday to September 8. .
  • River Night: Summer series include live cultural music and dance at the Arnison River Theatre. Performances will be held every Friday and Saturday through August 3 at 8:30 pm.
  • mission: San Antonio Mission will host the Corpus Christi Hooks on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Wolfe Stadium. Click here for more information.
  • Pet Adoption: The Texas Animal Welfare League is offering free pet adoptions this Father’s Day weekend. All adoption fees for puppies, kittens, dogs and cats will be waived from Friday through Monday. Read more here.
  • Drivers note: A portion of Interstate 10, Loop 1604, will be closed this weekend. As part of the Loop 1604 North expansion project, the Texas Department of Transportation will conduct multiple closures from 9 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, weather permitting. Click here for more information.

Thursday, June 13

  • HEMISFAIR Live Music: Sound Cream Sunset Sessions are held every Thursday in June at 7:30 pm at Civic Park. These events include live DJs, dancing and local vendors. Read more here.

Friday, June 14

  • Hair spray: The HEB Cinema at Will’s Plaza will screen “Hairspray” on Friday at 7 p.m. The event is free and people can bring their own lawn chairs or blankets. Concessions and a bar will be available. Click here for more information.

Saturday, June 15

  • King George: Country music legend George Strait will perform his first concert at Kyle Field on Saturday. Texans Parker McCollum and Catie Offerman are also scheduled to perform in downtown Aggieland. Read more here and find ticket availability here .
  • june celebration: The 25th Annual Juneteenth Freedom Parade begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sam Houston High School (4635 E. Houston St.) and ends at Comanche Park #2, 2600 Rigsby Ave. Moon Festival Freedom Parade. The festival includes a health fair, children’s activities, food stalls and local musicians and DJs including 12-11 Band and Heatwave.   • Arts and Music Festival: The inaugural San Antonio Arts and Music Festival heads to downtown this Saturday. The SAAM Festival will include more than 100 art vendors, live music on two stages, live murals, five food trucks, comedians and more. Read our story here.
  • Pride Hike: Phil Hardberger Park will host the second annual Pride Walk: Let’s Celebrate Nature’s Diversity from 9 to 11 a.m. Press here to learn more about the event and click here to see a list of more Pride events.
  • Latin Food Market: This Saturday, food vendors will bring together a variety of flavors at the Sazon Latin Cuisine Night Market, located at Pups and Pals Bar and Grill, 13838 Jones Maltsberger Road. The market will offer dishes and desserts from the Caribbean, Central and South America. Event is from 4pm to 10pm. Read our story here.
  • The Lord of the Rings is in theaters: “One Ring to Rule All” returns to theaters Saturday through Monday in Fathom’s re-release of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Screenings will take place at seven different theaters in San Antonio, including the Regal Alamo Quarry, Regal Northwoods and Santikos Casa Blanca. Read our story here.
  • Rock and Shopping: Local vendors will showcase their best wares at the Rock & Shop Night Market at The Rock at Frost Plaza in La Cantera (1 Spurs Way). The free event is from 6 to 10 p.m. Click here to learn more.
