June is Black Music Month, and NPC has announced who will be featured on this month’s Tiny Desk. This year’s lineup looks set to feature iconic music celebrating black women; Chaka Khan, SWV, Kierra Sheard, Flo Milli, Meshell Ndegeocello, Tierra Wack, Brittney Spencer, Lakecia Benjamin and Tems.

We’re canceling nine #tinydesk concerts from Black female artists – from veterans who paved the way for the Black music we hear today to those who are forging their own paths.

While we wait for these mic drop performances, let’s take a look back at the songs each artist performed better during their Tiny Desk shows.

1. NPR’s Tiny Desk Announcement

2. Chaka Khan: I am every woman

Now this song is hard because Chaka has a lot of songs that we want to hear, but we have to listen to “I’m Every Woman”

3.SWV “Rain”

SWV will bring the hits, but we have to hear them perform “Rain”

4. Kierra Sheard “It keeps happening”

Kierra Sheard’s “It Keeps Happening” is so inspiring that it needs to be on her Tiny Desk playlist.

5. Flo Milly “Never Lose Me”

Flo Milli’s “Never Lose Me” has a smooth, raw and edgy sound that’s perfect for her performance.

6. Meshell Ndegeocello “Outside the Door”

“Outside Your Door” is a classic by Meshell Ndegeocello

7. Tierra Whack “Stand Up”

Tierra Whack’s “Stand Up” has a groove that sounds great live on the Tiny Desk.

8. Britney Spencer “Bigger Than the Song”

Brittney’s voice on “Bigger Than The Song” is powerful and she pays homage to some of her icons in the music industry, so what better setting to perform the song live than the Tiny Desk.

9. Lexia Benjamin “Trane”

Lakecia is an incredible musician and “Trane” will be a spectacular addition to her Tiny Desk set.

10. The term “free thought”

Do we need to explain why…this song is just iconic
