Art, music, community spirit: Saluda Arts Festival returns for 19th annual showcase

SALUDA – One of Western North Carolina’s most beloved spring traditions, the Saluda Arts Festival returns for its 19th edition this year, Saturday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thousands of people are attracted to Saluda’s historic downtown every year.

Nearly 100 area artists will offer a wide range of arts and crafts work across all media—painting, drawing, sculpture, woodworking, jewelry, ceramics and more.

“The scope of work at the Saluda Arts Festival is always amazing, interesting and impressive,” said Howard Troxler, a Saluda volunteer who helps promote the festival. “One of the great things about the Saluda Arts Festival is that it is a community-wide event, run entirely by a strong group of volunteers and thanks to generous individual and corporate donors.”

In addition to an impressive array of art, the Saluda Arts Festival offers live music, entertainment, and a popular children’s tent with face painting and other activities. The children’s activity tent and children’s entertainment are sponsored by the Saluda Community Fund of the Polk County Community Foundation.

This year’s Saluda Arts Festival will feature live music at two venues from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy community choir Mountain Song performing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by Asheville World Sound Ensemble Life Like Water from noon to 1:30 p.m., Songwriters from 2 to 4 p.m. /Performer Michael Flynn performs “Slow Runner”

Additionally, Appalachian and Celtic open jam band Over Mountain Old Time Band will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Saluda Studios, located across from Green River BBQ, 144 US-176 .

Saluda is located off Exit 59 of Interstate 26 south of Hendersonville. Signs will direct visitors to the parking lot. Parking shuttles will run throughout the day from the event space next to Saluda Cemetery. Parking is also available in the East Main Street Municipal Parking Lot, Saluda Elementary School and other locations where parking is permitted. No parking is allowed on residential streets or sidewalks. Please consider leaving your pets at home during this warm spring outing, but pets are allowed.

The festival sincerely thanks the City of Saluda and its underwriters and sponsors for their help and in-kind services. The deadline for artist applications for the 2024 Festival is March 1.
