The third annual Vicksburg Arts and Music Festival kicks off Friday night at the Vicksburg Convention Center and continues through this evening.

This year’s festivities kicked off on Friday night with Compozitionz and The Chill officially kicking off the weekend’s music lineup.

The music and fun continues at 9 a.m. today as the 42nd Annual Alcorn State Jazz Festival begins.

Starting at noon, the Omega Psi Phi Youth Talent Search will take center stage, with the Mark Doyle Jam beginning at 2 p.m. and expected to last until 4 p.m.

Projekt will perform from 4 to 5 p.m., before blues legend Bobby Rush takes the stage at 5:30 p.m.

The event will conclude tonight with MS Marshall Deluxe at 7pm and Pop Fiction at 8:30pm.

This year’s festival will also feature pop-up shops, craft vendors and food trucks, said Erin Powell Southard, executive director of the Vicksburg Convention Center.

“We’re excited that this weekend is finally here and hope everyone can come out,” Southard said. “We have some great music, food and vendors. We encourage everyone to bring a chair and enjoy the music.

Funded in part by grants from the Mississippi State Department of Tourism and Delta National Heritage, the festival is free to attend and sponsored by the Vicksburg Convention Center and the Vicksburg Visitors Bureau.

Free parking is available for events in the parking lots on Depot Street or South Street. Free shuttle service will be provided between downtown Vicksburg, the parking lot and the festival.
