Casper College hosts art, music celebration tonight


CASPER, Wyo. – Casper College Reception invites the public to a free evening of beautiful art and music for the new exhibition “Held in Virginia: The Creation of Works, collections of works”.A reception is scheduled for 6 to 7 p.m.

The reception will be followed by a “Copeland Celebration” concert in Wheeler Hall at 7 p.m.

“The selection of works on display at the Mildred Zaladnicek Gallery speaks volumes about Held’s gift for the visual arts,” said visual arts instructor Valerie Innella Maiers. ) said. “Her art recalls the exploration of abstract form as subject matter that began in the early 20th century.”

Myers said Held’s prints, pastels and paintings contemplated the liberation of color in a lyrical way.

“This exhibition showcases both abstract and realistic portraits, offering a variety of media that allow viewers to consider how line guides the perception of form,” Myers said.

Under the direction of Joshua R. Mietz, DMA, the 7 p.m. concert will feature works by composer Aaron Copland, among others. The lineup includes two marches by John Philip Sousa, “Restoration March” and “Manhattan Beach March,” and two pieces by Percy Aldrich Granger, “Irish Tunes of County Derry” and “Colonial Songs” ”. The music Copeland will perform includes excerpts from “Portrait of Lincoln” and “Appalachian Spring.”

The Zahradnicek Gallery and Wheeler Concert Hall are located in the Music Building on the Casper College campus.
