(Des Moines, Iowa) — The Des Moines Arts Festival returns for its second day on Saturday. The crowd enjoyed a variety of artists showcasing their work, as well as a number of live bands, including Marshall Tucker Bank on Saturday night.
“We have great talent,” said Colleen Murphy, the festival’s community relations director. “Our stage is amazing. We’re impressed with the caliber of the musical lineup our director of operations has put together for us. People are really enjoying themselves this year. The festival also features 195 artists, 28 food vendors and five drink stations run by nonprofits, she said.
Part of this year’s show includes the return of the Habitat for Humanity house, currently under construction in the middle of 12th Street south of the Westgate Park Festival District in downtown Des Moines.
Jenna Ekstrom of Habitat for Humanity of Greater Des Moines said the program is part of a larger goal. “The festival allows us to really get our message out there about providing affordable housing across central Iowa to a different population than we normally don’t get to talk to,” she said. Exterior construction on the five-bedroom home is expected It will be completed by the end of Saturday and an open house is planned for Sunday. The interior of the home is expected to be completed after it is moved via semitrailer from 12th Street to its permanent location.
The festival will last one day, Sunday, June 30, from 11am to 5pm. Learn more on their website.
