The Wayne Center for the Arts (WCA) is offering summer camps, mini-camps and classes this summer to entertain and inspire students.

Classes are suitable for students of all ages and include traditional classes and innovative workshops in visual arts, clay, dance, music and drama. Details about the program and registration options can be found at WayneArtsCenter.org.

WCA offers week-long day camps and courses that last multiple sessions.

Beth Negro was appointed Music Coordinator in early 2024 and has been working behind the scenes to develop music programs and opportunities.

“I’ve been talking to music teachers all over the county to see what’s missing in our district so that we can fill that gap,” she said. “We offer classes for all ages, but we particularly want to develop the musical skills of teenagers and adults who want to enrich their lives through music.”

WCA has expanded private music lesson options in an effort to develop a stronger music curriculum. Students ages 8 and up can take private lessons in strings and piano, while older students can perfect bass brass (ages 11 and up), guitar (ages 12 and up), and voice (ages 13 and up) skills. Guitar, piano and vocal group lessons are also available.

WCA also offers music theory courses, and instructor Mary Deauclaire will offer a jazz appreciation course called “Inside Jazz.” The class will discuss what they heard and find ways to listen to and appreciate jazz more broadly. This course is suitable for ages 16 and over.

Children are also encouraged to delve deeper into music, with youth classes such as Baby Bop (10-23 months), Toddler’s Makin’ Music (24-35 months) and Preschool Rock (3-5 years old). Older children can connect with music through rhythm, creativity, and play taught by Megan Mowrer. Children will develop musicianship, ear training, and nuance skills through music and movement.
