Somerton will kick off summer with a bang at the 36th Music and Arts Festival on May 25
Featuring live music, art exhibitions and community events, the festival is a highly anticipated event that attracts locals and visitors to celebrate the town’s cultural spirit. As the festival approaches, excitement is building over a number of events, including the highly anticipated Somerstock event, which is already close to selling out.
Tier 2 tickets for the festival’s highlight, Somerstock, are already sold out, while the Fleetwood Bac tribute show is also about to sell out. In addition to ticketed events, the festival will host a range of free events, including a live music weekend on July 5-6. Over the weekend, local pubs will host seven live bands, transforming the town into a vibrant hub of musical activity.
Here’s a peek at the upcoming musical acts:
- Friday at White Hart: Fiddleback will deliver an alt-folk vibe through a combination of folk-rock covers and classic stomping tunes.
- Friday’s Globe: Open mic nights provide a platform for singers, comedians and musicians to showcase their talents.
- Friday at the Etsome Arms: The Lone Tourists, best known as a guitar duo and having one of Steve Lamarque’s top ten independent hits, will perform.
- Friday Royal Oak: Brothers Craig and Alex Priddis will prove that, contrary to the Gallagher brothers, family harmony can indeed exist in the world of music.
- Saturday at White Hart: DJ Bacchus Deluxe promises to bring you a night of expertly mixed tracks and turntables, spinning a variety of genres.
- Saturday at the Etsome Arms: Fly Yeti Fly will bring the spirit of the late 60’s folk scene to life through their poignant songs and stories.
- Saturday at the Royal Oak: Glastonbury singer-songwriter Jay Anderson, who was influenced by icons such as John Martin and Jeff Buckley, will grace the stage.
As well as live music, the festival will feature talks, historical walks through Somerton, various children’s activities and a special string duet evening. The finale, Summerstoke, is scheduled to take place on July 12-13 and is expected to bring the entire festival to a climax. Last year’s Somerstoke festival sold out, prompting festival-goers to book their tickets in advance this year.
