San Diego International Airport has resumed its performing arts residency program with live performances in the terminal starting Monday.
Groups of artists are invited to develop and perform new works as part of the programme, which has been disrupted for three years due to the pandemic. The airport also showcases new visual art.
DrumatiX is a creative percussion company ranked among the best among performers. The group was selected to develop, rehearse and perform a new percussion dance inspired by the sounds travelers hear during their journey through the airport.
Passengers may have seen Drumatix members developing concepts, rhythm and movement, interpreting sounds and rehearsing in and around the airport.
Airport President and CEO Kimberly Becker said the residency program “provides travelers with unexpected and engaging entertainment” and a “unique airport experience.”
The program was launched in 2016.

The exhibition features the work of 16 local artists, half of whom work in both countries. Participants include Hugo Crosthwaite of Baja California, winner of the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery Portrait Competition, and Carla Sofia Ordonez, co-founder of Yerbabuena Gallery in Tijuana. Carla Sofía Ordonez) and Barrio Logan-based textile artist Claudia Biezunski-Rodriguez, also known as Sew Loka.
