Join Ragamala Seattle for a family-friendly day of Indian music and art at the Seattle Asian Art Museum.
Event schedule:
10:30 a.m. to noon
Discover and explore North Indian classical instruments like sitar, tabla, harmonium and santur under the guidance of teaching artists Sampada Bhalerao, Deepashri Joglekar, Manoj Deshpande and Surya Pathak.
11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Learn Indian design at an art workshop hosted by Sweety Saradha Arts. Additionally, enjoy a beautiful visual art display by local artist Karthika Kizhepat.
11:30 am to 12:30 pm
Watch Dhrupad 101, an interactive performance exploring early styles of Hindustani (North Indian) music. Singer Akhil Jobanputra, accompanied by Sunny Matharu of Jori-Dhamma, will dissect the question “What is Dhrupad?” Through in-depth conversations and demonstrations about Dhrupad’s format, aesthetics, and goals.
1:30–4:00 p.m.
Dhrupad Vocal Concert organized by one of the most important exponents of the Dagarvani tradition, Pt. Uday Bhawalkar with Sukhad Munde on Pakhavaj and Kirit Singh on Tanpura .
This event is free, museum admission required.
