AGA100: The Art Gallery of Alberta kicked off its grand centenary celebrations with a launch party for five new exhibitions, including August Klintberg’s Empire of Love, a tribute to An interactive transformation of the artist’s 2005 Biennale work, where you can openly express your love.
Dance duo Compact Disco and Poet Laureate Shima Robinson will take to the stage, as will a Gretzky artwork by Andy Warhol. Plus, you still have time to upload your own art to be part of the AGA’s free anniversary wall for all—the deadline is Sunday! Flashback(2024): Director Peter Hayes looks back at one of Edmonton’s greatest clubs with this film that delves into Edmonton’s provocative disco dance culture, including sweat, sex, drugs and fashion, all in one Space owner John Reed vowed to be a safe space for “gays and lesbians.”
“AQ” and “A” follow the previous two screenings, with a portion of proceeds from Tuesday’s screening going to HIV Edmonton.

Parkland Music Project: Led by Edmonton expat singer-songwriter Rob Malowany, Parkland blends indie country fundamentals into a whirlwind of free jazz, with the orchestra’s ever-shifting tempo, tone and intensity.
In turn, Malovani twists his simple lyrics and heartfelt guitar playing into an impressively cohesive live songwriting act, which is certainly the way a lot of bands make music – we just saw it live it. Rubim de Toledo, bass; Chris Andrew, piano; Bob Tildesley, trumpet; Peter Belec, guitar; Daniel Daniel Stadnicki plays drums.
