Macao’s first international music camp is now accepting registration

Registration is now open for Macau’s first annual “Music Camp”, a six-day event scheduled to take place in August with one-on-one instruction from world-renowned musicians from the British Orchestra. Local and foreign children born between 2006 and 2016 who are currently learning to play string instruments are eligible to register.

The event is a new collaboration between the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC by its Portuguese abbreviation), the Macau Orchestra, the Orchestra of St. Martin’s Academy in London (ASMF) and Wynn Resorts.

During the camp, participants will form their own string orchestra and rehearse with ASMF’s professional musicians. IC revealed in a statement yesterday that outstanding violinists will have the opportunity to perform on the same stage with ASMF’s Grammy Award Music Director and American violinist Joshua Bell.

Summer camp dates are from August 16th to 21st. “On the last day of the music camp, the string orchestra will perform in public,” the bureau said.

There are 40 spots available, and applicants must submit a video of themselves playing a string instrument such as violin, viola, cello or double bass. The fee for local musicians is MOP 2,000 and for other musicians MOP 10,000. Accommodation is available for an additional payment of MOP10,000.

More information, including detailed registration instructions, can be found on the Music Camp webpage. Registration closes on July 12th.
