Lucas Nelson to fill in for dad Willie Nelson at Outlaw Music Festival in Holmdel

Willie Nelson, who missed the first four shows of the Outlaw Music Festival tour due to illness, will also miss this weekend’s show, including the June 30 show at the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel.

According to a message posted on social media today:

“Willie Nelson’s doctors have cleared him to hit the road again.

“He will continue the Outlaw tour next week.

“Willie won’t be attending this weekend’s date.

“Bob Dylan, Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Celis are scheduled to perform at all shows this weekend.

“In addition, Lucas Nielsen and family, along with some special guests, will perform his own set, which will include Willie’s classics and other songs.”

Willie’s son, Lucas Nelson, usually performs with his own band, Promise of the Real. “Family” refers to Willie Nelson’s usual support group.

Outlaw Music Festival is also scheduled to take place on July 4 at Camden’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, and in addition to Dylan, Maren Morris, Mavis Staples and Bowen*Young (named after “Nashville” actress Clare Bowen and her husband Brandon Young as the protagonist), Plant and Klaus, and Celis.

Willie Nelson is 91 years old.
