Source Music and Arts holds summer papermaking and writing camp

BEMIDJI — Headwaters Music and Arts will host papermaking and writing camps July 15-19 and Aug. 5-9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Headwaters, 519 Minnesota Ave. NW.

The camp, for youth in grades 3 to 12, will teach participants how to create and illustrate a variety of writing styles, including graphic novels, short poems and stories.

Participants will explore basic drawing techniques using graphite pencils and pens, including value, shading techniques, and perspective. They will also meet and collaborate with professional writers and artists in the area, explore local art galleries and spend time journaling in a café, a release said.

Back in the art studio, campers will learn the art of papermaking and binding pages into a small book.

Artist Shannan Stormy Reyes will lead a week-long summer experience filled with imagination, cultural exploration and lasting friendships, according to a press release.

Space is limited to 20 participants per session; advance registration required.

The registration deadline for the July meeting is Monday, July 1st.

The cost to participate is $200 per participant. Headwaters is waiving fees and offering scholarships to participants in the 21st Century Learning program, according to a news release.
