Gathering – Opening of the 2024 Winter Feast led by the first countries

This year’s opening night of the City of Hobart’s 2024 Winter Feast will showcase The Gathering – an Aboriginal-led music line-up co-curated by DarkLab Tasmanian Aboriginal Cultural Advisor Caleb Nichols-Mansell and DarkLab Music Director Kimberley Galceran.

The 2024 Winter Feast Party will feature performances by Tasmanian Aboriginal dance group Pakana Kanaplila, followed by an evening party by renowned contemporary and traditional Aboriginal artists and a host of local Palawa performers.

Contemporary artists include Wildfire Manwurrk, Kee’ahn, Eric Avery, LEO and Torres Green, as well as revered rocker Bart Willoughby (No Fixed Address) and legendary songwriter and storyteller Yirrmal.

Local Palawa and Aboriginal artists include Merinda Sainty, Warren Mason, Dewayne Everettsmtih, Pyper Robertson, Fox Ransom, Madelena and Boil Up!

“In this year’s Winter Fest, we are honored to highlight the deep and layered tradition of Aboriginal music,” said Caleb Nichols-Mansell.

“Our programming celebrates the deep cultural heritage and contemporary creativity of Aboriginal artists. By combining storytelling traditions with contemporary voices and expressions, we aim to create an immersive and unforgettable experience for all attendees. experience.

Following the opening night, over 80 performers will take to the stage over two weeks, including a diverse selection of local, interstate and international artists.

International musicians and performers taking part in the feast come from Tibet, Mongolia, Afghanistan, Northeast Arnhem Land, Senegal, Cuba, Mali, Guinea, Gambia, Ethiopia, Guinea, the Arab world and Pakistan. The program also highlights our own local international artists from India, China, Pakistan, Japan, South America, the Balkans, Colombia, Brazil, Malawi and more.
