May 21, 2024 (East County San Diego) – San Diego County’s free “Summer Movies in the Parks 2024” season kicks off Friday, May 24 at 6 p.m. with an event and sunset screening of Oscar-winning blockbusters “Barbie” is in the seaside park in the city center. The entire season includes more than 100 films, shown at dozens of parks throughout the county, many of which are located in East County.
To celebrate the opening, there will be a variety of special events and free fun for kids and families, including music, games, bounce houses, themed crafts and other free activities. While the movie starts at dusk, about 15 minutes after sunset, a series of free activities are expected to begin at 6 p.m.
East County premieres are June 8, with The Little Mermaid 8 screening at Sweetwater Place Park Spring Valley and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem at Ray Showings at Dos Picos County Park in Ramona.
Filming locations in East County and inland San Diego from now through August include Campo, El Cajon, Escondido, Flynn Springs, Julian, La Mesa, Lakeside, Rai Mont Grove, Pine Valley, Potrero, Poway, Ramona, Rancho Bernardo, Rolando, San Carlos, Skyline and Spring Valley.
