WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. — Ed McMahon doesn’t serve as host, but the Divisional Star Search music and creative arts talent contest captures all the magic of the iconic televised sensation of the ’80s and ’90s.
Nearly 400 children from elementary school through high school participating in The Salvation Army Greater New York Division’s music and creative arts programs recently participated in the division’s Star Search Music and Creative Arts talent contest.
The Salvation Army is one of the top providers of free or reduced-price music and creative arts instruction for students of all ages. After months of practice and persistence, New York’s most talented young artists compete in this iconic youth event.

First place winners and categories for the White Plains Legion are:
- Abigail Moen, Level 2 Piano and Level 2 Brass Soloist

Started in the 1990s, Star Hunt encourages the arts and music and highlights students’ talents in dance, musical instruments, singing and acting.
The winner in each category will compete against other area corps on Saturday, June 8, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
