Galway International Arts Festival (international aviation federation) announced plans for this year’s event, which will take place from July 15th to 28th. The festival will feature music, theatre, dance, visual arts, street art and lectures.
Belfast rapper Kneecap is one of this year’s headline music acts and will perform at the Heineken Big Top on 18 July.The trio, who perform in Irish and English, recently signed to Heavenly Records and will release their debut album art in June. The group was also the subject of a film by director Rich Peppiatt, which won the Audience Award at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival. us – The first award-winning Irish language film.
Performing at the Heineken Big Top, the largest music venue at the Heineken Beer Festival, are Annie Mac (July 21), Jess Glynne (July 24), Passenger (July 15), Stewart Copeland with orchestra and conductor Eímear Noone (July 17), Leftfield (July 19), Dec Pierce’s Block Rockin Beats (July 20), The Saw Doctors (July 27-28), Kettama (July 25 ) and Gavin James (July 26).
Róisín Dubh and Monroe

The venue will host an extensive series of concerts during the festival, including singer and composer Niamh Regan (July 16); Code Words (July 19); Dublin Greenhouse Orchestra performing music by Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto ( July 27); singer-songwriters Susan O’Neill (July 18), Trad Rave (July 19); indie band Telebox (July 15); Will Butler – multi-instrumentalist, former member of Arcade Fire – and Sister Squares (July 23); and alternative folk artist Simple Kid (July 26).
Performing at the Monroe venue include funk rock band Fun Lovin’ Crimes (July 17), singer-songwriter Róisín O (July 24), Teddy Thompson (July 25), traditional band George Murphy and the Rising Sons (July 27), multi-band-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Tara Howley (July 28), singer-songwriter Oisín Leech with special guest Lemoncello (July 20), Lumiere – Éilís Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon duo (July 21), Welsh songwriter Gruff Rhys (July 26) and folk-pop singer Darren Kiely (July 23).
Traditional Concert, ConTempo Quartet
The festival’s annual Lunchtime Heritage concert series returns this year, with performances by Josephine Marsh, Eileen O’Brien and Geraldine Moloney (18 July), Conor Connolly and Padraig Ó Dubhghaill (19 July), Cormac Breathnach and Martin Dunlea (July 20), Emer Mayock and Donal Siggins (July 25), Galvian Way – by Ger Clancy, Seosamh Ó Fátharta, Maidhc Ó hÉanaigh, Declan Corey, Paul McClure and Mick Clancy – with dancers Ailbhe Davorenh, Declan Corey, Paul McClure and Mick Clancy – with dancers Ailbhe Davoren (July 26) and Catherine McHugh and Áine McHugh (July 27).
There will be concerts at St. Nicholas Church, where the ConTempo Quartet will perform with In Flow Gamelan Group, a percussion group of mentally retarded performers (July 16) and Tibetan singer Yungchen Lhamo (July 18) . The Vinyl Hours lecture series will introduce musicians and artists to their favorite songs, with guests including Mickey Bradley and Gavin James of The Undertones, with more guests to be announced soon.

The theater program will include seven world premieres, including reunion Created by Mark O’Rowe – Landmark Productions and international aviation federation; Argentina map Marina Carr – a production directed by Andrew Flynn that focuses on complex family dynamics, love and desire; and a new immersive theater installation, dining room – Part of the festival series created by Enda Walsh and Artistic Director Paul Fahy.
Issues such as climate crisis and the rise of emerging economies AImodern irish history, us Politics and the idea of a united Ireland will be discussed as part of the conferencefirst idea talk series Included with guests Including journalists Marion McKeone and Fintan O’Toole; novelists Colm Tóibín, Andrew O’Hagan, Mike McCormack and Elaine Feeney; historian Diamade Ferrit; actors and activist Liz Carr; and climate change consultant Mary Donnelly.
