Dear Mateel members and community members near and far,
Mateel Community Center is proud to continue the tradition of our beloved summer arts and music festival for the forty-seventh time. The festival began in 1977 and has been held every year since then, except for 2020, which was affected by the epidemic. In 2021 we held the festival in and around the Mateel Hall, where we were able to recreate the festival atmosphere in a smaller, more intimate setting.
This year, on Saturday, June 8th and Sunday, June 9th, we will create that intimate atmosphere again with the 47th Annual Summer Arts and Music Festival in the Mateel Community Center lobby. This allows us to continue celebrating together at a much lower cost to our community center.
There will be over 30 artisan stalls showcasing the talent of our community. There will also be amazing food, local beer and wine, and of course a fantastic array of local music on both stages! As always, this will be a very family-friendly event, with children 12 and under free (must be accompanied by a parent and/or legal guardian). This smaller setting also allows us to lower admission fees, allowing more members of our community to participate.Please see our website www.summerartsandmusicfestival.com Get discounted advance tickets and more information.
Sustainability is key this year as we develop plans and look forward to returning to exterior form at another local venue and the environment that makes the most sense for us financially and otherwise. We have some very good options that we will continue to discuss in 2025.
Mateel Board of Directors public meetings are held on the third Wednesday of each month starting at 6:00 pm at the Mateel Community Center located at 59 Rusk Lane Redway, CA 95560. Mateel Community Center was founded in 1978 by a group of local volunteers. In 1984, following an arson attack at the old Firemen’s Hall where events were held, a group came together to start Reggae on the river to help build a new community centre. The Mateel Community Center subsequently reopened in 1988 under the auspices of this successful, world-renowned festival.
