For the 13th year in a row, Vicksburg Triumph Church will host a music and art camp for children ages 5 to 12.Held at: 30 p.m.

Originally founded by former worship pastor Landy Maughon, the camp has become so popular that attendance was recently increased to accommodate 220 children. The camp reached its maximum capacity in one day this year, and the church is now waiting.

Children’s activities.

Throughout the week, children rotate at different stations learning about different areas of art, music, dance and singing. They also receive free T-shirts and daily snacks.

Upon arrival at camp, each child is assigned to a group named after a planet based on age. They are assigned to this group throughout the week. Each day begins with a worship and singing service. Afterwards, children will rotate through classes in dance, art, music, snacks and songs, and travel with designated groups. At the end of the day, they participate in some games and have a short Bible lesson.

“The most important thing is that children learn that God created them for a purpose and that they have talents they can use to bless others,” Chelsea Whitfield said. “That’s where all music, art and dance come into play.”

On the last day of camp, kids will enjoy a grand finale celebration including gift bags, snow cones, and playtime
Outdoor bouncing toys. Daily reviews of camp activities will be posted on social media for parents to view. The Sunday after camp, during church services, the children perform a performance to show off some of what they have learned.

Whitfield emphasized that safety and security at the campsite is important. All adult volunteers must pass a background check
and receive training before they are allowed to work with children.

There is no fee to attend the camp.

“We want to be a blessing to our community,” Whitfield said. “If we could give it up, we wanted to. That’s the foundation of our church. We want to be a blessing to others.

The church relies on donations from its members and other sponsors to pay for the camp. Anyone wishing to help with a donation should contact the church office.
