Cannonball Arts, new music venue in downtown Seattle, opening soon – News

The team behind Bumbershoot arts and music festival Cannonball Arts will open a new music venue in downtown Seattle next year.

The planned site will replace the former Bed, Bath & Beyond store in downtown Seattle and span 66,000 square feet across two city blocks.

The project is said to be “ambitious” in scale and scope and is expected to open to the public in spring 2025.

Cannonball Arts is the brainchild of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe and New Rising Sun, a Seattle-based nonprofit group of visual artists and promoters that operates the city’s annual Bumbershoot Arts and Music Festival. The 2023 festival will feature performances by the likes of Uncle Waffles, Major League Djz and Fatboy Slim.

After discussions with the property owner, the team secured a five-year lease for the site, hoping to “revitalize” downtown Seattle and bring in “the next generation of makers, producers and curators.”

“Cannonball Arts provides Bumbershoot with a year-round platform to celebrate the rich creativity of the Pacific Northwest,” said New Rising Sun co-producer and creative director Greg Lundgren.

Spanning two floors of “contemporary and performing arts spaces”, the venue serves as a music and arts hub, hosting “a variety of musical and visual arts performances”.

Speaking about the planned space, Muckleshoot President and CEO Joe Olujic said, “We are excited to be a part of Bumbershoot’s transition from a weekend event to a year-round event.

“Welcoming people to this transformed downtown landmark dedicated to arts and culture is a unique opportunity. We look forward to a very diverse programming experience that communities across the Pacific Northwest will enjoy in the coming years.”
